  1. ÇCHKDSK won't run with Magic Folders installed.  We disable ChkDsk because it 
  2. can delete all your invisible files.  For more information select "Help" 
  3. at the main screen. 
  4.  
  5. ChkDsk is the only program we've tested that causes a problem.  The 
  6. following have been tested and work fine with Magic Folders: SCANDISK, 
  7. DEFRAG, Norton Disk Doctor, and Norton Speed Disk.  
  8.  
  9. Do you use any other disk fix or defragmenting utilities not listed here? 
  10. üYou must test your disk fix and/or defragmenting utilities to see if 
  11. they're safe to use with Magic Folders.  To do so, run them when your 
  12. Magic folders are visible and invisible.  DO NOT FIX ANY REPORTED ERRORS.  
  13. If more errors are reported when your folders are invisible then do one 
  14. of the following: 
  15.  
  16. 1.  Remove the utilities (so you can't use them) or remove Magic Folders.
  17.  
  18. 2.  Use only one account in Magic Folders (just use the Master Account 
  19. already created) and move the offending utility into one of your 
  20. invisible folders.  That way it can only be run when all folders and 
  21. files are visible, and thereby safe.

  26. âTo register via modem from outside the US or Canada please enter those 
  27. numbers that must be dialed to place a direct call to the United States.  
  28. These numbers often include a prefix to place an international call 
  29. followed by the country code for the United States.  If you want to put 
  30. delays in your prefix dialing string, use a comma for every two second 
  31. delay needed.

  33. Note: A successful registration may not be possible if a good modem 
  34. connection cannot be made due to line quality or delays.  In addition, 
  35. international calling rates can be expensive, but in most cases will 
  36. still be less than the $4 mailing surcharge added to overseas orders that 
  37. are registered by other means.

  40. When you registered you received a file called MFD.SYS which tells Magic 
  41. Folders you're a registered user.  MFD.SYS has been customized with your 
  42. personal information (See "Registered to..." in the "Registration" Menu) 
  43. and is for your use only.  Giving MFD.SYS to others is illegal.

  45. Make a backup copy of MFD.SYS as it is the key to your registration.  
  46. As long as it's in the same directory as MAGIC.EXE Magic Folders will be 
  47. registered.

  49. One registration benefit is free updates for six months, provided you 
  50. download them.  You can get the latest version at our WEB site: 
  51. "www.pc-magic.com"   Just download the latest version and extract it 
  52. into the directory where the current version is located.  
  53.  
  54. Note:  If you charged your registration to your credit card the charge 
  55. will be to RSE Software.  Thank you for your support.
  56. àOne or more of the files needed to restore the last registered version 
  57. are missing.  If you got a disk from us when you registered (modem 
  58. registrants don't unless they request one) then you can re-install that 
  59. version.

  61. A better option is to visit our WEB page at: "pc-magic.com/", go to 
  62. the "Previous versions" page and click on the latest version created 
  63. within six months of your registration.
  64. åYou can have up to 5 Magic Folder accounts.  Each account can create 
  65. their own list of magic folders that are invisible to all other 
  66. accounts.  However, only your "Master" account can un-install Magic 
  67. Folders and create new accounts.

  69. If multiple accounts are created, no account has access to all the hidden 
  70. folders.  Therefore you shouldn't create multiple accounts if you're 
  71. hiding an "un-safe" disk utility.  Having multiple accounts also makes 
  72. backups tougher because no account has complete access to all hidden 
  73. folders.  See "Multiple Accounts" in "Help" for more important 
  74. information.

  89. continue using your currently registered version forever if you wish.

  102. into Magic Folders should you forget your password.  It also lets you 
  103. disable Magic Folders from DOS should you not be able to use the 
  104. "Uninstall" feature within Magic Folders.

  106. To create your KeyDisk put a blank, formatted disk in your floppy drive.

  108. What drive is your KeyDisk in?
  109. èYour KeyDisk has been created.  Remove your KeyDisk now and write the 
  110. following on its label:

  112. "Magic Folder KeyDisk - See README.TXT if you forget password or need to 
  113. uninstall and can't run Magic Folders."

  120. If you forget your password insert this KeyDisk, run Magic Folders and 
  121.  
  122. attempt to enter your password three times.  After the third attempt 
  123.  
  124. Magic Folders will use this disk as a key to let you in.  This only lets 
  125.  
  126. you into the Master Account.  If you forget the password to another 
  127.  
  128. account you will have to un-install Magic Folders and re-install it again 
  129.  
  130. to gain access to all the hidden folders.

  133. Can't run Magic Folders?
  134.  
  135. If you need to uninstall Magic Folders and you can't use the Un-install 
  136.  
  137. feature inside Magic Folders then boot from a system floppy, or if Win95, 
  138.  
  139. safe boot to "Safe Command Prompt Only".  Then insert this disk into 
  140.  
  141. drive A:.  At the DOS prompt enter "A:", and then enter "DISABLE".
  142.  
  143. îYou can use Magic Folders to restrict access to your computer.  With 
  144. "AutoStart" installed Magic Folders asks you for your password whenever 
  145. your computer boots.  Enter your password and your magic folders will 
  146. automatically become visible.  How Magic Folders handles incorrect 
  147. passwords depends on which of the following two options you choose.  
  148. Select "Cancel" if you don't wish to install "AutoStart". 
  149.  
  150. ìIt appears you have 32 bit File Access for Windows 3.11 activated.  
  151. Magic Folders will not work if 32 bit File Access is on.  You can check 
  152. by going into Control Panel, clicking "Enhanced", then "Virtual Memory" 
  153. and checking the "Disk Status" section.

  156. ÄMagic Folders didn't load correctly.  MF.EXE (or whatever you renamed it 
  157. during installation) needs to be run from within your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.  
  158. Make sure the "LH pathname\MF.EXE" statement (where "pathname" is the 
  159. directory where MF.EXE is located) is in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file and that 
  160. it directly proceeds the line that runs Windows.  If it is and things 
  161. still don't work, please send e-mail to support@pc-magic.com and 
  162. reference Err 97.
